Douglas J. Newman received his B.S. (accounting) from Arizona State University in 1977; J.D. from the University of Arizona College of Law in 1981, and his LL.M. (in taxation) from the Holland Law Center, University of Florida College of Law in 1982. During law school, he was awarded Best Oral Argument in First Year Moot Court Competition, and served as Managing Editor of the Arizona Law Review. Doug has the highest "AV" rating by Martindale Hubbel, and is also listed in Best Lawyers in America. Both publications are based solely upon the opinions of other attorneys. Doug is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Law at the James E. Rogers College of Law, University of Arizona. Doug has spoken at numerous seminars for the State Bar, Pima County Bar, and other organizations. Recent presentations include: Retirement Plans for the Law Office, Pima County Bar Association (2007), Deferred Compensation - New Rules under Internal Revenue Code § 409A, Tucson Tax Study Group (2006); Estate Planning (defining the "estate"; taxation considerations), Sterling Education Services (2006); 401(k), IRA and other accounts after the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act, Tucson Tax Study Group (2005); Estate Planning and Issues at Retirement, Civil Service Retirement Program (2005); Tax Issues With Retirement Plan Distributions, Lorman Education Services (2005); Estate and Gift Taxation; IRAs and Qualified Plans - Tax and Practical Issues; Dealing with Second or Troubled Marriages, Sterling Education Services (2005). Doug donates his time to many organizations, including the Pima County Bar Association, First Year Mentor Program at The James E. Rogers College of Law, Get Involved Foundation (GIFT) of Tucson, Southern Arizona AIDS Foundation, and Pride Law Clinic. Brown has been a law clerk at the firm since his third year of law school. He received his B.S. in Philosophy and Psychology from The University of Arizona in December, 1996. He was a National Merit Scholar, Member of the Golden Key National Honor Society, and a Baird Scholarship recipient. After undergrad, Caleb worked for his father, a registered land surveyor, operating a GPS total station, researching and confirming legal descriptions and title history, working with subdivision plats and alternative land-use planning, and compliance work under Arizona statutes regulating land-splitting and resale. Caleb returned to academia and was awarded his J.D. from the University of Arizona James E. Rogers College of Law in May, 2005. During law school, he qualified for membership on the Arizona Law Review, was a member of Phi Delta Phi, and the American Constitution Society. Caleb met his wife in law school.
